Yoga goes where it is needed most. True to form, yoga came into my life at a time when I dearly needed it. Not only was I physically out of shape, but I had lost my sense of self and my internal compass for what I really wanted and needed. I was more stressed than I could recognize – having endured anxiety and depression for most of my life – and exhausted.

This practice was a revelation to me. My first days on my mat felt intuitive, exactly what my body wanted. Even when I was tired or stressed, I knew I could commit to another practice because all I needed to do was breathe and listen to my body. Somehow, that always blossomed into something more. Through yoga, I could feel for the first time that I was okay and that my life was going to be okay. I was finding a healing and a new source of strength I didn’t know was available to me.

Over time, I felt the physical, spiritual and emotional transformation that yoga can offer. I am freer, wiser and more present in my life. Sharing this practice with others is a great honor, one for which I am truly grateful.

CREDENTIALS

Yoga Medicine 500-Hour: Yoga Medicine teachers are trained in the fusion of East and West to blend the best of anatomy and physiology with the traditional practice of yoga. I’m currently enrolled in this fantastic training, which I will be completing on a rolling basis over the next several years. I’m excited to integrate what I learn into my classes and during my one-on-one work with clients. Below are my completed modules:

  • Yoga Medicine Chinese Medicine Immersion (25-Hour)
  • Yoga Medicine Myofascial Release (60-Hour)
  • Yoga Medicine Hip Anatomy and Dysfunction (60-Hour)
  • Yoga Medicine Spine Intensive (60-Hour)
  • Neurobiology of Yoga

Prana Power Yoga 200-Hour: In January 2014, I completed my 200-hour teacher training with Prana Power Yoga. Prana’s training heavily emphasizes the art of teaching yoga itself, with additional introductory modules in the yoga sutras, pranayama, yin yoga, prenatal yoga, anatomy, sequencing, and ayurveda.

Trauma-Informed Yoga: From 2012-2014, I attended facilitator trainings for yogaHOPE‘s trauma-sensitive mindfulness program in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and a pilot men’s group in Brockton, MA. This program’s deep emphasis on the physiology and neurobiology of trauma, meditation, restorative yoga and facilitation is something I continue to bring into my yoga teaching.

Hands-On Assisting: My yoga practice began in 2009, and a few years later I completed Prana Power Yoga’s hands-on assistant training under the direction of Ray Mucci and Sue Jones. For three years, I served as a regular in-class assistant to bring energetic touch and alignment-focused adjustments to yoga practitioners. I have also mentored new assistants and enjoy bringing hands-on assisting into my classes and work with individuals.
